Gas vs brake pedals

Maybe it’s me, but I continue to have a problem when applying the brake pedal (2003 Edge) to inadvertently push the gas pedal at the same time! By the time I realize it, it’s too late to remove my foot and reposition it for lack of being able to stop. I have had some very close calls! The problem - for me - is that the gas pedal is too close to the brake pedal ( I can actually get it in the gap next to the transmission hump). Is there an aftermarket part that would move the gas pedal further to the right and away from the brake pedal? Or, any other modification that anyone else has tried?

Manual or automatic trans?

No, never seen anything like that to move the gas pedal over
But the brake pedal should be well above the height of the gas pedal, so maybe the brake pedal is too low, but not sure why?

If its an automatic you could cut a bit off the gas pedal side of the brake pedal, so your foot would have to be over farther, away from the gas pedal

Gas pedal is attached with a pivot both seen here: https://www.explorerforum.com/forums...6087-gif.7628/

I assume your braking foot's heel is hitting the lower edge of gas pedal
Remove gas pedal and cut a few inches off the end so its not as long, most only use the upper pedal area anyway

Thanks for some great ideas! I was a little surprised to hear that the problem seems to be “just me” and is not one shared by others. In every other
vehicle I’ve ever driven, I’ve been able to rest the side of my foot on the hump and still operate the gas pedal. And, unless my foot is entirely on the brake pedal, it will contact the gas pedal when depressed. I’ll give it some time to see if anyone else shares my experience before I do any cutting and continue to drive with my over abundance of footwork awareness.
