I live in an old mill town. Lots of old brick buildings and duplex houses. I live with my best friend from highschool, in the duplex his father owns. Cheap rent, FTW! It's the "Antique Mecca of New England", which means we have snobs and yuppies everywhere. But, with all the old mill houses, we also have low-income and downright white trash. It's a very.... diverse.... area.

Good point! This is gonna be like sniping an eBay bid, isn't it? That's fine.... I'm trying to restore my laptop after some windows stupidity, anyway. Looks like I won't be going to bed anytime soon.....

Snow is ok, lived with it for a long time.

Before snow hits this year I hope to be SoCal !

Still can get cold at nights but that's what fireplaces are for.

True enough. I just pile on more blankets. We don't have a fireplace and nat gas isn't cheap up here.

When I was in college piling the blankets was the best way to save money on the heating bill

Yup !
When I was a kid the blanket thing was the way to go but I don't like the extra weight.
Right now in New England the pellet stove does the trick, but in SoCal I think it will be a propane fireplace so not even sure what the cost will be.

I wanted to put in radiant heat and screw the fireplace but the wife wants the FP and she thinks radiant heat will cost too much, we will see, she can pay for the propane.

As you get older it gets worse, I think that is part of why some older couples split, that and $ex... another story.

To me there is nothing like a wood burning fire place or stove, the warmth, the burning noise of the fire, the smell, all part of that feeling of home.

Well, since this a BS thread, I may as well express my happiness in here! I lost my computer to a typical Windows glitch, fixed it myself, lost my anti-virus due to some registry error that I may or may not have caused, and was afraid to even connect wifi until I got the anti-virus back. Well, $15 bucks and some guy named Vijay poking around in my computer through a remote connection later.... I'M BAAAAACK! Well, on an actuall laptop, anyway.
