how do i opt out? if i lost interest in the item, i don't care if it sold.

really? it's just annoying getting them and then having to delete.

if i can't, so be it. would another mod kno for sure?

There is no opt from the pm update from the original poster using the sold feature. The best way is for you to not get those updates on sold items is to not reply to the thread and just pm the person.

If there is overwhelming demand for a usercp / post opt out selection button I will look into having someone code it up but this is the first time I have heard of someone not wanting the updates :)
