selectable black background

Rick/Beard

Is there any chance you could install a black background version of the site that is selectable down in the bottom corner or something. This white is starting to kill my eyes for some reason. This way, those that like the current one can use it and those us us who like darker themes, can use that one. please consider, thanks!

(kinda like back when you could select between old theme and new theme)

I'm on the xtreme style too and still kills my eyes. Some times I've even had by eyes twitch from being on here too long.

Adjust the brightness on your monitor, that will help. When your eyes start bothering you, twitching, and you get a headache it's just time to get off. Anyone will have side effects from staring at a computer screen too long. I highly doubt a new theme will be added or the current one changed. This theme was designed to get away from the dark, drab colors found on most forums. The old theme should help a lot if the white and light gray bother you. Just remember that some of the colors will clash because they are designed for the new theme. I will pass this suggestion along to Rick so that he sees it though.

The newer theme kills me, I've always been on the old style and always will be.

For you people that have problems with the comp killing your eyes, mainly at night, you should install this software called f.lux. I have it on my laptop and at first it takes a little getting used to but I'll never go back now. It changes the hue or whatever of your screen to match nature. For example during the day it'll be at like 6500k or whatever then at night it goes as low as like 4800k I think? You can disable it for an hour if you're doing photo editing and stuff too. It adjusts automatically for you once you set it up.

x2 on the flux program. I've been using this for a while and love it.

On my last computer I had a program that actually moved your active window around in a circular motion, one pixel at a time, and my eyes would never get tired. It takes like a month of getting used to, but it will unconsciously keep your eyes moving thus preventing fatigue or strain. I know that this is pretty much useless 'cause I don't have a link for it, but I haven't been able to find it since I got this new computer.

Im not trying to sound like a jerk but I am surprised the new theme really bothers your eyes. Do you work in the dark? Is the room well lit? Im on the computer for at least 12hrs a day if not more and I dont have issues with reading the screen. It doesnt seem that bright to me. RF spent a lot to get a well designed layout where all the colors flow and match. I am pretty sure it wont change for a while. To me and like KLC mentioned its it laid out to look professional and stylish like an well designed 10K + member forum board should be.

go check out PSN if you think this one is bright! lol

No Im in a well lit office. It doesnt matter what room im in, it hurts. I didnt say that it didnt look professional or anything, just asking for another selectable option, and I see i am not the only one with the problem. The site does look good and well organized, but the fact still stands that it hurts my eyes. I dont have an option to walk away from computer as it makes me my money...lol.

I work with AutoCAD everyday and i have the background set to black. it doesnt bother me. A few other forums I am on, have a selectable black theme, and they dont bother my eyes. I have a black skin on my Firefox and it doesnt bother my eyes. But when I switch to R/F, it hurts the ol eyes.

I will try what Korey mentioned to see if it helps though. I think the site will look fine with the same exact layout and all, but just replacing the white with a black or darker color that is asy on the eyes. Only that one change with it being a selectable option so that everyone who like the default one can use that one and everyone likes the darker one an use that. It wouldnt affect anyone, just gives everyone another option Again, just a suggestion. Thanks for listening!

Maybe look into getting glasses or don't use black on everything else and then white won't hurt your eyes.

I think what Zach is trying to say here is: Get over it!
nah, just messin with yous. If you have a Macbook, it auto dims to your current light conditions, and i find that helps a lot. when i first got this macbook, i was like woah, this LED screen is bright. but it is a great feature that it adjusts, makes things seem less bright.
my opinion for the color change is it needs to be Red, because Red doesn't reflect light, it absorbs it.

I've noticed with my macbook if the light is somewhat low and I put my hand over the power button it dims it more. I think that must be where the sensor is or something.
