Site Downtime...

yeah... so i was driving back from skiing when i got a call from john griggs. he called to ask me why the site was down? i had no idea it was, as i was on vacation.

so, i text a few people and get the number to StartLogic(our hosting company)...

i call them up and they go through all the "i am sorry it is down, we will fix you up" thing... i tell them to get the server up and running, because i am tired of the downtime. the girl says she is going to credit my account a few months extra and tells me it should be up that afternoon...

that evening, i get home and to my expectation the site was still unavailable...

so i call back, guys tells me some reason it is down and says it is a quick fix. he says they have to restart the server and then it'll work fine... 15 minutes and it will be up.

45 minutes goes by. i call back. he says "hmmm" and doesn't know why it isn't working. he says "give it til morning"...

so i go to sleep. wait til 11am the next morning. still not working. i call them back, and they tell me "oh, it must be something they are working on. it should be up this afternoon. just need to get an admin working on it.." and he tells me he is gonna give me some more free months of hosting.

i go christmas shopping, come home, watch a movie, then i call em back...

he gets ahold of someone and finds out the router is not pointing our site to the right ip address... says it is a 10 minute thing, "just need to contact an admin"...

this is at like 8:30ish on christmas eve...

so, i write an email to them, asking them to "re-alias" my server...

i wait til like 11... i call back: "well, we can't get in contact with an admin. someone is coming in at 10am tomorrow, they can do it"

so, i call them at 10am, this christmas morning: "yeah, he isn't in yet. get it fixed by lunchtime"

lunchtime, not working... after 12 it starts working...

but there was a database error...

i guess sk0t fixed that, cuz he is the database king...

long story short - i guess it was just bad luck... i can't imagine why we will have any more downtime in the future, and i apologize for the recent...

startlogic is a great company to host with, as they host over 25,000 websites. we are on the virtual server plan, which offers more than any other hosting company i have ever seen for it's money... all in all, i feel like they did try to help... and at least, now, it is all running smooth...

Merry Christmas

-Christian

Hmm, you know this could work. All we need is a day or two of downtime once a month and we with all the free months we get as an apology, the hosting will be free!! :)

Yeah, Scott, that would be a nice thing to have implemented in there. Glad the site is back!

Merry Christmas all!

That's actually good news, as I thought there was something wrong in my home PC. The site was fine from work, but I couldn't get it to load at home. I was pulling my hair out (both of em). Glad to see it up and running.

On a different note, my newest PC is up and running. AMD 3400+, ASUS MB, twin striped WD SATA drives, and a gig of ram. The thing installed XP SP2 in under 15 minutes, no joke. Now if only I could get DSL out here in the boondocks.

and gd 2.0+ wouldn't be bad... so the vBGarage would work haha

Don't you love how the "technical difficulties" always occur during vacations?

I started once to E-mail you about it Thursday, but I knew you were most likely aware of it. :D

No biggie in my opinion. Forced me to check some of the other sites (ie ORR) I frequently neglect. (Like I'm sure they mind!) A+ for doing what you were able to do from the 'backseat' of said vehicle..
