Classified Forum Suggestion !

As most know I have a long standing b!tch about comments in the Classified Forum after the OP and not directly pertaining to the thread.
Some are good comments and other… well lets say not so good.
Some comments get the predicable response other start to escalate and get out of hand.

To eliminate any problems from comments and eliminate discord in the site, maybe losing members over nothing more than a word, what if… we make the Classified Forum more like a Newspaper or Craig’s List ?
Only the original post is allowed, then locked, maybe allow the OP to make a change but no other comments or maybe only changes by Mod or Admin through a PM.

An E-Mail Addi or Cell/Land-Line Number should be required in the ad for additional info, maybe a form can be setup for the original post; fill in all the blanks or no post.

This way you the admin will be cutting short any comments made to undermined the sale or even to help it along and in turn help the site to work.

If someone wants to comment about the sale they can start a new thread in another section and then if it is “not acceptable” the forum can take the necessary step. In fact I think there is a forum for just that purpose.

Sorry to keep bringing up changes and ideas but I think this one will eliminate the comments that can get out of hand and make the Selling/Buying/Wanted/Info of items on this site easier, just a listing nothing more !

I dont mind this idea but personally i like the comments on the sale threads. It keeps people honest. No stupid high prices etc.

If someone was to post something with false info or a really high price i would want someone to point that out to me.

Another plus is with comments, I can ask a question that some others are thinking and get one response instead of bothering the OP with 5x the same question.

Maybe more moderation is needed to keep that area on track?

I'm not particularly fond of not allowing posts on a site that has been struggling with activity, classifieds or not.

I'm not really fond of requiring the location in the title either but whatever I guess.

Good comments but the problem is if someone makes a commen, says about the price, as they have done in the past on my threads, you tell them to go out and find the part for the price they are mentioning and they never come back and say oh ya I guess you did your home work.

No one comes back to say I am sorry but you are right...

I have FX4 parts for sale, brand new my prices are based on what I paid, someone said no way I can get those cheaper, I said go out and look you will see not only on price but on availability, since there was no further responses everyone thinks my prices are too high but based on availability and the price I paid the prices are in the ball park, again I didn't get anyone coming back to say I was right or wrong.

More moderator overview on the area might do it but there is a difference in what one person thinks to another.

Another thought, if you have a question about a part, similar to if you found it on Craig's List or eBay, start a post and ask away, mention where you found it and the price then it is another story about what is in the posting.

My thought here is that you are not limiting the posting in the site, go a head and post a question about the part for sale but just not in the same thread.

In that case I think you simply report the post and if a mod agrees with your position it can be removed. Your points you make do happen but just not often enough to have a completely different place to post about a classified post. It would seem odd.

And all of that is laid on the OP because someone else made an unnecessary comment that can be eliminated by having classified posts he'd to the OP and admin only !

Hold the post to the OP and you eliminate any further situations, no confrontation, no unnecessary posting.

As said, if someone does not like an item for sale because they feel there is a problem let THEM contact the admin and have it looked into, otherwise lay off the unwanted posting !
DON'T leave it to the OP to correct an unnecessary post or try to get action.

As far as posting in a different place, the only post that will be different is when the person who doesn't like something about a post can go to the general forum and do their thing... It is not up to me as the OP to post an ad that everyone agrees to, the cost of something is what the market will bear not what someone else things it should be. The condition of an item, if you know it isn't a good part for whatever reason contact the admin to check it out.

Rambling again, sorry !

How often do you post in the classifieds? Just deal with it! This happens on every forum, either report t so the mods can deal with it or just ignore it and move on. After all, the site owners are nice enough to allow us to post classifieds here for free, some sites require you be a site supporter to post in the classifieds.

I agree with you Scrambler....I recently have had these same problems with another Ranger site classifieds...I will throw my stuff in the trash before I put a classified ad in any Ranger forum again.....Those type of comments do not happen in all forums. I belong to several laptop forums where juvenile comments are not tolerated at all. If you are not responding because of a personal interest in buying the item, your post is deleted and the poster is warned. It's up to the buyer to research an item before purchase. Google is your friend. Third party comments are not needed.
When I buy laptop parts from forum classifieds we always go PM for details. The ad thread is left alone.
The comments happen because everyone is anonymous on the web..Most of the people who make negative comments would NEVER have the courage to say a word in person...
I feel if the unneeded negative comments were eliminated, the forums would ATTRACT more members and postings. Who wants to speak up knowing that they are going to be attacked...I don't..I was repairing vehicles and building hot rods long before the internet. I will manage just fine without getting attacked in my classified ads. I have 15 years worth of Ford factory service manuals and my own common sense and imagination.

I'm not really a fan of the idea, I don't see it being an issue honestly. I can browse the classified forum and I see none of this going on any time recently.

deer245, I'm sorry you feel that way, and feel we should change our rules because of something you experienced elsewhere.

However, we can work on some kind of solution if enough members come forward expressing interest in changing the way the classifieds are run here. There has to be a lot of interest in changing though, because we aren't going to go change something like that because 1 or 2 people think it needs to change. We'd change it and then we'd have 50 that hated it.

leave it alone. communication and questions in a classified ad prevent cluttering of inbox messages. As morris said, more than 1 person may have the same or similar question.

I feel that laziness is a factor because people don't like to read and sift through stuff to get direct info from he OP's posts. Take for example the coilover bracket thread. All the info is there but there are very few that will take the time to go through the pages to find what they need.

I sell a lot of stuff on this site and some is brand new so my pricing is a little higher than what most people want to pay and I get a lot of posts that do not help my sales.
Why do some people want to hurt someone's sale ?

RazorsEDGE, thanks for the support and I think we are not alone.

P.C., if you remember I have had this hair across my a$$ for a while and I really believe it is a big problem that needs to be addressed by the higher ups.
I am only asking that it apply to the classified section.
I really don't care what someone thinks of my pricing,or for that matter the "GLWS" posts, WTF; just leave the threads alone.

Anyway... Thanks for listening and for any support.

The things is if you do not like what I am selling then YOU should report it not the OP !

No ones appears to have gotten the point to this thread.

The comments are interfering with a members right to sell something on this site.

Although this site is on the web and yes the web is a place to make comments and feel free from your personal responsibility, but this site is a member only thing not a come one come all.
This site isn’t Face Book and it isn’t Tweeter or which ever one you want to reference we join this site to share in a mutual interest and hopefully mutual friendship not a Let interfere with this guys sale…
WTF let the people sell what they want to without someone having a bad comment about it, jealousies, wanting of the part being sold, what is it ?

And the site owes there membership that right and should do everything it can to support it. Yes the site gives us a free ride in the Classified Area but let tune it up some and make it an easy place to sell something.

OK, I know this is a useless thread, most people just don’t bother but I do not like it when someone interferes with another and the interference isn’t wanted.

I’m done, thanks for listening,

ltr

Just to be clear, this site doesn't owe you anything. You do not have a right to use this site. It is a privilege allowed to you by the owners, but they do not owe you anything.

if you posted something for sale, why would you report yourself? lol

either way, if someone posts something that you don't like in your thread, report it. The mods don't have time to read every post or police the site 24/7

If I pay to be on a site then the site owes me the right to use it and all of the benefits that membership offer and not be harassed because someone things there is a problem, there is no privilege when you are a paying member.
If I am a visitor then what you say might hold up.

As things stand, as the OP you are required to report a posting in your thread that interferes or otherwise conflicts with what you are doing. I am saying as the OP you should be able to post in the Classified Forum and leave it, post a number or e-mail and get your responses outside of the site.
If as a reader/member you do not like what is posted then you have the responsibility to report it, that is all.

As far as policing postings, you are correct, that is why I am suggesting what I did.

Let me say in my own defense… I am just trying to improve the Site Experience.
If someone posts in the Classified Forum (I am only talking about the Classified) and gets $hit for what they are trying to sell or post, they may either not be back or just not post there stuff in the forums.

you dont have to pay to get the same benefits. Just because you contributed to the site doesnt make you better than someone who didnt.
