Alright guys here is my review of the Aeroforce Interceptor Scan Gauge.

I was looking into getting a ScanGaugeII previously but I just could not stand the look of them, so I started looking into other OBDII scan gauges and found this one.

Just like all of the other scan gauges this one plugs into your OBDII port and that is it, no wiring power or anything like that, simply plug and play.

The gauge itself is in my opinion a GREAT looking gauge, and what is also great is that it fits into a standard gauge pod, here is what it looks like (Autometer F150 column pod). Notice the clean look and only two buttons.

The screen is bright and matches the interior perfectly, it is very easy to read during the day even if it is in the direct sun light. Unlike some other brands this one retains it's green color during the day also, instead of appearing brownish gray. The display is also a fully graphic display and not alpha-numeric.
Attachment 187596

The numbers are big and EXTREMELY easy to read at a quick glance, especially since the screen is very clear. You can see here that I am currently displaying MPG and MPH. The MPG figure is based on an equation using information from the MAF, and is accurate out of the box unlike some others as well. There is nothing to calibrate, no information to enter/tweak before you get accurate MPG readings either.

Also unlike some of the other gauges on the market this one allows you to hook up non OBDII sending units to it which are also made by Aeroforce. They sell oil pressure, fuel pressure, boost/vacuum, pyrometer, 2000psi nitrous pressure, as well as fluid and air temperature if there is anything else you want to monitor temps of. You are able to use two of these per gauge.
They can be found here: http://www.aeroforcetech.com/sensor.html

Swapped out the lights in your interior to another color? No problem, they sell the gauge in multiple colors as well (there as also different face colors and LED colors which are not pictured).

To fully show the gauges functions I had to make a video, there would be too many pictures to show everything. I apologize for the voice, a cheap microphone on the camera and late night apparently make me sound like I am in middle school.

I strongly recommend this gauge to anyone, especially if you want better fuel mileage since your foot is the biggest factor in mileage. Before I got the gauge I thought I was driving for maximum MPG but after seeing instantly updating MPG numbers it has really allowed me to change my driving habits and my miles to the tank have really gone up.

Here is more information on the gauge for anyone whom is interested.

I think that's a heck of a lot nicer looking than the ScanGaugeII everyone seems to like here.

The features are relatively the same from what I can gather.

Might be on my list for mods down the road.

Price if you don't mind me asking?

Nevermind. At $239 a pop that's not too bad for a more compact package.

korey89 10-09-2008 12:53 AM

Yeah, I think it looks a lot nicer also.

Price is $240 for one, or $400 for two.

How is an MAF going tell you how much fuel is flowing?

Fx4wannabe01 10-09-2008 08:49 AM

yea. lol.

Nice Korey. I like it...very clean looking. That is my one and only complaint of the scangaugeII: the way it looks. BUT having said that, I like having the big numbers on hand. I seriously drive by that scangauge and not gauge cluster. lol.

Thanks Korey for another option out there for people.

04blackedge 10-09-2008 09:03 AM

Yeah I do the same, I like how the Scangauge can display 4 things and its a heck of a lot cheaper than that one.

Cool find though

It is a nice looking gauge but I still like the scan gauge II. I guess it's all personal choice.

Good Review........

I don't see why you would pay 80 bucks more for something that only displays 1/2 of what the scangauge does.

Everything I have read about the SGII shows it displays less then this one does. The only thing that I have seen the SGII show more information about is all that fuel stuff, which IMO is kind of useless. Plus doesn't that SGII require a decent amount of setup before it works? And don't you have to tell it every time you fill up the tank, and wouldn't that mean you have to 100% fill the tank for all the features to work right? The SGII does not offer a pair of warning indicator lights, the performance measurement feature, the ability to be mounted in a gauge pod, nor does it have the looks IMO.

04blackedge 10-09-2008 03:56 PM

I meant displaying 4 parameters at once.

I like mine, you like yours I'm not trying to argue over which one is better. They're both cool gadgets IMO

whippersnapper02 10-09-2008 04:05 PM

Looks good but I wouldn't pay the extra money for something that does the same thing. The SG is geared more toward saving you gas and that's why you have to do some setup. I'm sure with that "extra" setup makes the SG more accurate.

Trust me, I'm not trying to argue :biggthump

I just don't have much experience with the SGII, which is why I asked those questions.

But in regard to the 4 parameters at once, this one has something called "cyclic scan mode" where you chose 8 paramaters and it will display all 8 of them, just not at the same time. It displays them in 4 groups of 2 with the groups of 2 rotating after X amount of time, which you set up. You can make them stay for a very short period of time to the point where it is constantly changing or you can make them stay for longer.

I agree, they are both cool gadgets and I like both.

04blackedge 10-09-2008 04:17 PM

The setup for the scangauge is really easy and it only takes 5 minutes.

Roach2004 10-09-2008 04:20 PM

Wow I want one of those!

04blackedge 10-09-2008 04:29 PM

I think the biggest thing I like about my scangauge and the reason I bought one is because I can easily take it from vehicle to vehicle. I'm taking it out of my truck about weekly into other peoples cars, I don't see how you could easily do that with this one.

Very true, which is why i feel alot of people on here post unbeleivable gas mileage using the scanguage II.

This new unit put the scanguage to shame for appearance too.

Fx4wannabe01 10-09-2008 04:32 PM

^^x2! edit: agreeing with trent on the removal and using it one someone elses vehicle. My average MPG readout on the SG is pretty damn accurate...it's almost exactly the same mileage as i'm computing with the calculations of the tire change, miles traveled, amount of fuel to fill up.

Your agreeing with him? My scangauge was pretty darn accurate and I still havent set it up ye

FireRanger 10-09-2008 04:50 PM

I'm still waiting to hear how this new thing measures fuel flow with the Mass Air Flow sensor.

LOL.

leadfoot 10-09-2008 05:47 PM

What do you use to mount these?

yetti96 10-09-2008 05:54 PM

So what did the pod holder cost?

Obviously it doesn't measure fuel flow with the MAF. It also uses information from the MAF somehow as part of the equation to determine MPG. I did not design the gauge obviously, but this is what I have been told.

04blackedge 10-09-2008 06:10 PM

It calculates it the same way the scangauge does, through information through the computer.

How do you calibrate it for tire changes and such?

korey89 10-09-2008 06:23 PM

According to Aeroforce it uses a different method than the SGII. At the end of my video it shows how to adjust it for different tire sizes.
