Car Vacuum Reviews?

Car Vacuum Reviews?
Well since my new apartment has a garage that means I finally can do all my truck cleaning at my own place.
I wanna get a vacuum for the garage that I can use to clean out our cars but not sure what I should get. Should I get a big shop vac that I could use for the future? Or just something small? Would love to find something that does well with vacumming cars.
Thanks.

I have a Craftsman 12 gal. 5 h.p. model, and it's great. Comes with both the big hoses for garage/shop clean-up and thinner diameter hose and attachments for the cars. Personally I would get something around this size instead of getting something too small now and having to buy bigger down the road.

Here is the one at lowes

And one at Home Depot that is a little bigger.

It was a special deal going on when he got his, not sure where he got it though. I will check with him.

Funny you should ask. I just used my mini-vac on my truck this afternoon.
Years ago I got a 1.0 HP wet/dry shop vac as a gift. I often use this on the truck. It works, but I really wouldn't recommend it. It doesn't have quite enough power to be really useful. And it's got a tiny ~1" tube. The upside is it's quite small and easy to store for us apartment dwellers. It's also easy to carry around the truck.
I've since blown the big bucks for a Craftsman shop-vac. I forget how much HP it's got, but it's more than enough. I'm pretty sure it's the 12 gal, 5 HP model. It's got a nice 2 1/2" tube and is so much better. Everything I don't like about the little vac is solved by this monster. I think Craftsman makes a pretty good wet/dry vac. And I was suprised how affordable they are. I used the mini vac today because I have the big vac loaned out to my mother. She is doing some home improvement. I actually considered postponing the cleaning until I had the big vac back..
My dad has had his Craftsman wet/dry since sometime in the min 80's..

Yeah I have thought about just getting the big one because it might come to be useful down the road. Do you know which model you have and how much you paid?
My stepdad just got a newone but cant remember if its a craftsmen or not, and it has a blower on it, but he doesnt like it because there isnt much room for all the attachments they give you.
Thanks.

I just dug out the manual (I keep all that crap here in my desk). Wouldn't cha know it has the capacity, but not the power. It is definitely a 12 gal model. I'm 99% sure it's a 5 HP, probably an older version of this one. Sears.com shows it as priced at $80. Although I saw they had another, higher capacity one on sale for less. Were I you I'd probably just walk into the local store and see what's on special. If you don't like it, come back in a week when another one is on special, if you do, call it a day..
I bought mine after returning a gift. My (divorced) parents who would not be caught dead talking to each other managed to give me IDENTICAL cordless power tool kits for xmas a few years back. Dad gave me a receipt and told me to go nuts in the tool shop there. I think I had $140 to blow. I managed to walk out of there w/ the wet/dry vac, a 1/3rd sheet sander, and a bag full of hand tools. I felt like I was taking them! .. I finished my dining room set w/ all that crap!
Mine does have a 'blow' function too. I can't say I've ever used it. (Or imagined a use for it.) The attachment caddy on the back is kinda cheasy, but it works. I can't imagine a wet/dry vac caddy that actually works. I've never seen a vac w/ a good one. I wouldn't call that a big deal though..
Mine is one of the funky shaped ones, not the traditional trash can shaped kind. It is far shorter than most and has a sloped nose. It fits quite nicely under the tonneau in my truck once you remove the long extension tubes from the cheasy caddy..

Well sorry to bring this thread back to life again, but I just got a 75 dollar gift card to Lowes for my Birthday and I am going to spend it on a shop vac. Most likely I am going with the 12 gallon or so but I still need to look at what they have. So if anyone has any last minute suggestions that would be cool, otherwise I am psyched to be getting one.
