Icon13 Raybestos Brakes

I did a brake upgrade and bought Raybestos drums, Raybestos brake shoes, and a Carlson hardware kit. The hardware kit was nice and the shoes looked like good quality but the drums did not fit right. They were so tight I had to hit them with a mallet to get them on and after a 1/4 mile they were too hot to touch. I had to have the drums lathed down to fit right. I am 100% sure everything was installed correctly.

Brake Shoes Part #705NR
Brake Drum Part # 9498R

I have a 28 spline 8.8" with 10" Drums

The adjusters were all the way backed off, as was the E-brake. The shoes were as far in as possible and all oriented correctly.

I ordered them online from Rock Auto, It was cheaper to have them turned than send them back. They work fine now. The ID seemed to be a little less than 10"

That seems odd... I've sold hundreds of Raybestos brake parts and no issues like that. Must have been made on a Friday afternoon! lol

When i did took my truck to a shop to deal with the drum brakes.
I bought wagner shoes and advance auto brake drums.
The mechanic got the shoes on and the drums wouldnt fit over the shoes, he even turned the sh!!!t out of the drums and still wouldnt fit....

So i ended up using their house brand from pepboys and that took care of the problem....
im not sure why... since i never own a vehicle with drums, my ranger is the first one....

but the shoes material was way too thick to fit over the drums.
