Well I got an 05 ranger 2wd, it is like new so I wouldnt mind selling my 97 7.3 and just put a 3" lift and tires on the ranger. I noticed nooone has a suspension lift for rangers? So how hard is it to install a body lift on these trucks? And what should I get

A lift for your 05? I believe older lifts should work with the newer trucks. atleast with a 4x4 I am pretty sure you can, 2wd's might be different.

A body lift shouldn't be too difficult, but then again I did mine on my 84, so there are less lines and stuff you have to watch for on them. Mine took about 2 hours by myself.

You basically are stuck with a 3" body lift as they don't make 2" lifts for newer trucks. PA body lifts seem to be the major manufacture of quality lifts. Its about 200 bucks and comes with everything needed minus the shift extender if you have a manual. In doing I would take my time and jack it up slowly and keep an ear and an eye out for anything that might get broken like ground straps ect. Especially A/C lines.

 

I found suspension which is what I really want. But being 2wd I want it to stay level, and the kits are 3" up front and 2.5 rear block...Do they make a 3" front and rear

 

well to be level you'd lift the front 3 and the rear 1.5 cause i think they're an inch and a half higher in the rear. but if you wannt lift them both three inches you could do spindles and blocks?

 

def do a suspension lift, no offense to anybody that has a body lift but in my opinion they dont look good at all. i have a 3" fabtech on my 03 edge and i love it.. go to performancelifts.com they have suspension lifts

 

What size tire you running wit 3" lifts too guys. I dont want any rub if pissible and i dont want the biggest tire, i want the smallest that will look normal

 

i like 31's with spindles on a 2wd. they dont rub on my truck stock and my buddy had spndles and they looked great. not super big but a clean hieght

 

with my 3" spindles i got 31's and they look good

 

32" fits fine with no trimming but i still always want bigger tires on it..

 

You can lift your front suspension up 6" without a body lift. You have two options for the front.

One is a spindle lift, which yields 3" of lift, with no change in ride quality. Most expensive, but it is the most favorable option as well. An alignment is recommended.

For the other 3" of max lift, you can pick up some coil spacers or some lift coils. Coils stiffen your ride because they use different spring rates. There are plenty of different heights for coils and spacers, ranging from 1" to 3". When you lift more than 2" with coils or spacers, you might want to look into aftermarket upper control arms to aid your alignment. Keep in mind, that with coils and spacers, you will need extended shocks and new alignment cams, and obviously an alignment.

For the rear, you have different options as well. You can add lift blocks, extended shackles, add-a-leafs, and lift springs. New shocks will be needed to accompany any lift.

You can also add a 3" body lift for a 3" of lift.

31's are preferred with 2.5"-3" of lift, and 32's will have minor rubbing. 33's are preferred with 4.5"-6" of lift, and 35's are for the 9" of lift.

 

Also what will having a lift, the spindles and block lift, have an impact on in the future? Premature wear on ball joints and such?

 

Yes having all that stuff on your truck is going to wear your front suspension much quicker. Also you will notice the wheel bearings will have to be replaced more often. I was told with my 33's I will have to replace them twice a year.

I would settle for spindles if you have the money. They run about 350~600 new. Depending on the brand. Doestch brand ones are decent and run about ~400 new. They are easy to install and retain your stock ride quality. 31's will be fine with just spindles.

FRXLT (spelling?) posted an ad about a week ago that had some Fabtech spindles for cheap. Don't know if they are still available though.
