Alternator trigger signal ?

Hello world,

I am facing problem on alternator it's not working because there is no signal from the ignition switch through the LG/RD.

Fuses checked. Any one faced a similar problem, it's 1996 ranger with ohv 4.0l

Any one knows how many interconnector in between from CAB fuse box to alternator connector? More over ranger equipped with ammeter or voltmeter, because I am not sure, from drawing it seems ammeter.

Car was setting for a long time so I don't know really if it was working before.

Assume "no signal" means no 12volts at the alternator's Light Green/Red wire when key is turned on.

As shown in diagram the ON/OFF wire for the alternator passes thru the Voltage Meter or the Battery Light, or both.
The battery light has a by pass resistor(470ohm) in case the bulb burns out.
Voltage meter has no by pass so if it fails no power will go to alternator's ON/OFF switch.

When key is turned to ON, 12volts pass thru ignition switch to the #15 Fuse then to the volt meter or battery light and then to alternator.
So to test alternator you can use a jumper wire from battery + to that terminal on the alternator.
When started battery voltage should jump from 12.5v(at rest voltage) to 14.5v(alternator output voltage)

Does battery light on dash come on with the key?
Does Voltmeter move when key is turned on?

The diagram shows 2 connectors, C146 and C115, from dash to alternator, but same wire color
M and F = Male connector and Female connector

Found the issue part of the harness burn due to failure of alternator. The harness get rectifying and still battery light is not coming. Battery voltage is coming now, Bulb replacement in progress.

RouD, do you have component location map of engine compartment?

The alternator connection is common for most of car, RonD the issue with previous drawing I can't locate the c115 connector. So the is naming diffrence. I download a OEM CD for ford manual but not working properly in wiring and it's no pdf, unlucky.

I checked autozone data base and I didnot find the diagrams,

But I have a question if I found a Haynes manual on the internet and posted for others, I will be banded?

I doubt you would be banned, but if it was a copyright issue moderators would remove the link and tell you not to post it again.

Haynes charges a subscription for on-line access to their manuals so they probably watch the car/truck forums for links when people want to share manuals, so best to not post it publicly, it will just be removed
