PO455 Reaccuring Fuel Vapor Leak

Well boys. I have a nasty CEL problem. It pops up every thousand miles or so then disappears after a week or two. It's been a problem this whole past year and it's back.

I know that the main cause is a bad gas cap or improperly installed gas cap. Knowing that I have been making damn sure it is on right. No that isn't the issue.

I have noticed that when I have been driving awhile or run the engine hard then stop and park I get a gas smell when I step out of the truck. But not in the cab. And only after I have pushed the engine. I can't track it down though.

I replaced the fuel vapor hose that goes into the throttle body a few months ago as it was dry rotted. I wonder if the replacement hose it the culprit. Possibly?

I also suspect the fuel vapor canister may be stuck open or the filler neck is bad. The canister and its hoses look fine but the filled neck has seen 10 years of salt and brine in the rust belt. I'm not so sure about it. Tascaparts wants $115 for a new neck. Plus I should put on a new cap. So $140 total. Ouch. No way.

So my question....any where else that I should look? Any other rubber hoses that could be bad? Is there anyway to single out the vapor canister? Or maybe the filler neck?

Thanks!!

I had a wally world locking gas cap that threw the CEL. I put the stock one back on and haven't had a problem with it again. I do have the gas smell when i get out. It's usually after over an hour of driving.

The gas smell is defiantly the norm.

I have a stock gas cap but my filler neck is really rough. I narrowed to down to that or a stuck or broken vapor canister. i'm sure how to decide which.

sounds like it might be time for a smoke machine...do you have access to one...dealer usually charges an arm and a leg to diag an EVAP leak
