It is the middle of winter and gas prices in the Northeast have skyrocketed up and over what the prices were during the in summer. It went from 2.8? to 3.00+ in the past 3 months. I paid 2.98 the last time I filled up. Most of the prices this week have been from 2.90-3.05.

But this is frikin' ridiculous:

So what is your current gas price range?

 

Our gas prices here range anywhere from $2.80 to $3 depending on where you go. It's gone up about 20 to 25 cents over the last few months.

 

$1.189 a liter x 3.78 = $4.49 a US gallon. Yay Vancouver! Gotta pay for the %^&* Owelympics, I guess

 

Canada doesn't count, you guys have been shafted for gas forever

 

the price per barrel of gas has been rising for a while now. it was up over 90 last week

 

it's crazy. what's the difference between that barrel in the summer and that barrel now.

 

paid 3.49 for diesel the other day. i think it was 3.29 this morning.

which is refined less and has less regulation on quality... so you think you have the shaft on gas, diesel is worse. The quality of diesel has suffered so much over the last few years that most guys including me now put in an additive every tank to protect against rust, mold, dirt, sand, and water. Not to mention we already run 2 filters. The fuel companies are nothing but a joke.

 

Ill have to go back and look. I do know (either this summer or last) it was in the 60's

and why diesel is so much is way beyond me. From what i remember, it has to be refined less than gas. But maybe thats before the low sulfer stuff?

 

The difference is that the guys running the company that owns that barrel of oil want more money now than the billions they already had during the summer.

 

$3.04-3.10 for 87 by me this morning in southeast Michigan. It's shot up about 15 cents in the past week.

 

3.29 for diesel here, and additive every tank.

Gas is 2.89 here right now.

I paid 2.99 at costco last week. Other places its anywhere from 3.12 to 3.25/gallon.

Does your state regulate fuel quality? I bet you most of the issues stem from the stations storage tanks.

 

No it's diesel everywhere. It is the diesel in the entire country unfortunately. And bad diesel in a newer engine can kill a lot of components in a short amount of time. I use additives in the TDI every fill up as well. A batch of low lubricity diesel (or a small amount of gas mixed in the tanker truck) can kill the HPFP and wipe out the entire fuel system, costing $8-10k to replace.

Why is it so expensive? Probably largely due to taxes, and further refining to make it ULSD (ultra low sulfur diesel).

Although I don't know why fuel is right now, I try not to look because I'm going use the same amount anyway. 93 octane in the F150 too. I know it is over $3 though.

diesel here is always cheaper than gasoline, at least 15% ($1.08 liter vs. 1.189)
I've started ordering most of my stuff to a post box in Pt. Roberts Wa., a strange, landlocked little nub of the state that is REALLY close to Canada, and buying gas there when I go down. BC can suck it! It's getting so f*&^ing expensive to live here!

which to me, means Diesel is a by-product of gas, which makes no sense why its more expensive. but i think the process of making it ULSD (ultra low sulfer Diesel) is what costs the most.
