I had a blast. In the hour i spent, i dont think ive ever had this much fun with my lowered truck. So heres my plan, im still selling the 99, but i plan to strip the lift and rims off it. And my 2001 will not be lowered too much longer...


so just wait and see whats instored

i cant wait till the newness is out of my truck so i can do a little... i found a really easy spot about a mile from my house so im psyched

 

Off-Roading is like most other addictions.. easy to get into, but it gets expensive fast! I keep sabotaging myself by putting street tires on my truck, thats how I justify not offroading it at all. Or at least thats what I keep telling myself.

As for comments.. keeping the alcoas is fine, but a lifted off-road truck on 17s would look great, too. There are plenty of sizes available since the F150 has had 17" wheels since 97.

And if you're dead set on using the alcoas, you could always sell me the 17s cheap as a set of spares. I'd have no need for your tires, though.

 

Its very addictive, I have not done it in awhile but need to severely.

 

It's taken me a long time to build my truck up to where it is, and it's still not done.

Just be patient and do only the necessary things a bit at a time. That helps control the expense by spreading it out a bit and you can wait for bargains.

As your driving improves you'll know better what your truck needs -- and as your truck improves, you'll know what your driving needs, lol!

I know the feeling though -- when I bought this truck I had no intentions of offroading -- and now I can't wait to go each time I do.

LMAO!!! See... people laugh at me when I change my mind every 3 min, but I have been an leader of a trend of others to lower, lift, lower, lift there trucks every month huhahahahahaha

I understand it's really all about reps and not how far you lower it or lift it.

 

I know the feeling! I blame people at these damned Ranger sites..

If you have the means, I'd highly recommend keeping the '01 as a daily driver. That would let you be a little more daring w/ the '99 and know you'll still be able to get to work on Monday morning. That's my A#1 problem w/ 'wheeling': the fear of breaking something and being out of my only (all-weather) set of wheels.

 

good move scotty G. I was the same way till just about everytime i went out **** broke and I stoped.

 

I love offroading, but like everyone's said- you've gotta pay to play! My truck's still mostly stock, but I got a set of mud tires and tow hooks.. so I still have a little fun. My biggest concern is breaking stuff, so whenever I go- it's always with a big group that's experienced with offroad recoveries. Most of the trail carnage I've seen was when somebody got stuck and sh*t got torn up during the recovery. Just make sure ya walk it before ya drive it, and when you're stuck you gotta get off the go pedal. Other than that, just be safe and have fun!

heh, it is very addicting. i have forced myself to stop in the F-Bomb simple because i was breaking stuff quicker than i could fix it. also its finally the cleanest it was since i bought it and i kinda like it this way. we'll see how long temptation lasts.

i would definatly get another vehicle to wheel, as if u break it u can park it until u can fix it. also buy something thats cheap to repair, no need spending $$ on repairs when u can use that for mods.

but then again, u have fun now in a stock rig but down the road u think what u can tackle with some mud tires. then u get bored with that and think what u can do with a rear locker, then get bored with that...and well u see...

or u get tired of trail riding and wanna see if u can climb that rock or bog that mud pit and get stuck to ur doors in mud at 3:30 in the morning after a rain storm in november with a stock 2wd S-10 D'oh!

 

well, i idea is, i need to get rid of a vehicle. between my fiannce and I we have 2 trucks and 1 car.. We need the car for the room and for the babyseat :)

so a truck has to go, and since i own all three of these vechicles theres no payments, im not buying something else to pay on. The idea is to save money, and since i alreayd have a lift kit that i can use, im not spending money, and i can sell the lowering kit off my truck too.

I dont know far ill go with this, i just know that i had fun, and i always liked driving a big truck, so this is the next best thing, someday ill get a 4x4, someday ill get a trail rig, but for now, my truck is my daily, weither its lifted or lowered, and if i get stuck, thats what friends are for, i dont plan to wheel alone

If one is breaking a lot on a regular basis, one may have equipment, driving, or JUDGEMENT issues, lol!

My breakage has been minimal. Just EASE into it, ask advice about how/if to proceed from people you trust, and DO NOT under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES allow anyone to shame or dare you into doing something you're not ready for, or equipped for.

If you wheel with people like that, either ignore them or find others to wheel with!

My two "best" wheeling buds in terms of my trusting their judgement have been Carl (buckgnarly) and Tom (TBarCYa). I know I can always ask them and get a straight answer to help me make up my mind. I enjoy wheeling with a bunch of different folks, don't get me wrong -- but I've wheeled with them more than most and have grown to trust them. Heck, Carl got me into wheeling in the first place!

 

we should meet down (up for you) in wellsville once its summer again for some offroading there...

If you're gonna sell the 99, I say get a dedicated trail rig, like an old jeep or bronco. It'd be better for off-roading and honestly, I love your truck! I'd hate to see your sweet paint job get all f*cked up.
