alright, so i have a 97 xlt,standard,single cab 2WD. The height of it isnt exactly where i'd like it to be.
i've thought about body lifts, but i dont know too much about them. from what i've been hearing, their nothing too worth spending the money towards. i'm not looking for anything crazy big, just an extra 2 or so inches added on. i just read alittle on cranking the torsion bar, but im wanting to know if that wont hurt anything thing in the long run.. or if it'll even make that big of a difference at that?
i have thought about just investing in to some new rims, slap some all terrains on it and be done with it. but i also have a question with what rims will fit on the truck and everything else that plays a part in that. i'd like to try and fit 32's maybe? i dont know.

just throwing this out there for all of you who know more than me about this, to give me some feedback.

 

You dont have torsion bars to crank. That is a 98+. Bodylift will probably be one of your cheapest options. Skyjacker also makes a kit with 2" lift coils and an add a leaf in the rear. The 4wd and 2wd coils and shocks are the sames so you can get a 4wd coil lift. Also depending how worn you current springs are you may net more lift than advertised. I think a 32 inch tire is a safe bet with a fresh coil lift. The wheels a 15x8 or 16x8 with 3.75 - 4" backspacing with a bolt pattern of 5 x 4.5(5x114.3).

 

ohh ok i gotcha now. would the body lift effect the ride feel? i dont want that stiff feeling suspension.
i'm leaning towards just buying rims and tires, i think just having it sit on 31's would look good enough

 

body lift doesnt effect the suspension at all. Also I dont know alot about the gen 3s but I would imagine that 31s are going to be a tight fit. You have to factor in that your springs are most likely 14 years old and have worn a bit. 31s on a stock 2wd will rub like crazy you need to least leveling coils to fit 31s.

 

ohhh ok i got what your saying. well thank ya. i may go with getting a body lift then. their not too hard to install yourself are they? no special tools you need or anything?

 

however, if you had a 4wd, 31s would fit easily.

They arent too hard. Id get a couple buddies to help ya lift the bed and such. Pb blaster is going to be your friend and a torch is a nice thing to have but its not necessary.

 

31"s will fit fine on a stock 2wd. I ran that setup for a while with no rubbing at all.

Doesn't matter, it'll still fit about the same.

I've seen 31's on 93-05 2wd TTB and non T-bar suspension. They all fit about the same.

Sometimes minor rubbing at full lock on the plastic inner fender (sometimes not), but nothing that will hurt anything.

Wow ^^^ I had my 2000 2WD XLT on 31s and everytime I came off curbs I slammed them into the inner fenders.

Find me a 98+ TTB Ranger and I will buy it for you lol
