Icon8 Fuel cap light on??

so while i was driving home last night, my fuel cap light randomly came on. when i got home i checked and re-tightened the fuel cap, and it still won't shut off. what could be wrong? is the light something i can just shut off with an OBDII scanner? please help, the light is really annoying, lol

Easy fix. Just lift the battery terminals for a few minutes. This will reset the computer.

You may need to get a new fuel cap as the old one may be leaking/not sealing.

I believe the whole fuel system is "closed" due to emissions controls, and if the old cap is not holding, it will set off the light.

either the fuel cap seal is worn out or you have a large leak in the evap system, large enought the computer thinks it the fuel cap. Those are the easyes leak to find on the evap system.

i looked at the cap and seal last night and it didnt look out of the ordinary to me, but then again maybe i dont know what i'm looking at. didn't think something like that would go bad on an 06...do i have to get a new cap at the dealer? or is that something i can pick up at autozone?
