I know this is gonna be a pretty stupid question but how the hell do I get the shift **** off of my 07 STX 5-speed shifter. I have been wanting to put an aftermarket shift **** on my shifter but i cant figure out how to get the stock one off. Most shift ***** either screw on or have a set screw you have to loosen to get it off but this one has neither that i can tell. I've tried unscrewing it but i doesnt budge and i've looked all over for a set screw and cant find one. I even bought one of those chilton manuals hoping for an answer and no luck there either.

I am pretty sure I just pulled mine off. It took some muscle but I pulled and twisted it. Not sure if thats the right way to do it or not though.

 

hm ok ill just have to be careful not to rip the boot to crap though cause i attaches to the **** somehow

 

Mine was a pain. But all I did was heat it up with a hair dryer until it was warm...then just pulled and twisted it until it came off. Kind of a b***h, but I personally hated the stock shift ****.

 

yeah i know the shift pattern in it already since its like the last stick i drove lol. that and the devil **** goes better with what i have in mind for my truck

 

Oh yeah, I hear ya!! Currently I have a Snap-On screw-driver handle as my shift ****...but I really wish our shifters were threaded because I am thinking I kind of want a B&M T-handle.

 

hm thanks for the non-threaded info. ill have to check and make sure that **** isnt threaded or i may not be able to do that unless it has a set crew to hold it on

 

After you pull and twist the **** off remove the stick from the vehicle and weld a threaded stud to the top.
Now ou have a threaded shift lever.

Or switch to a hurst shifter, sweet lever and screw on ****.
Hurst has all kind of replacement shift levers, puts the **** anywhere you need it.
