shift knob wont come off!

shift **** wont come off!

how do i get me shift **** to come off to put an aftermarket one on?

before i got my hurst i took off the whole lever, brought it in the house and hung it from the oven/range vent with the **** immersed in a pan of water, brought it to a boil, took it out, and with leather gloves on pulled it right off.
