Stock ride height for Edges

Refering to the above: you measure from the ground to the bottom tip of the spindle (inset drawing) which is measurement (1) and from the ground to the center of the forward lower a-arm pivot which is measurement (3).
From this, subtract (1) from (3) to get measurement (2) which is "ride height" by the Ford spec.
Front new vehicles with less than 500 miles: 113 mm (4.52 in) +/- 11 mm (0.44 in)
Front with original parts after 500 miles: 101 mm (4.04 in) +/- 11 mm (0.44 in)
Front with replacement parts: 113 mm (4.52 in) +/- 3 mm (0.12 in)
Notice that the "original" parts are allowed more tolerance than replacement parts -- don't know what that is about.
Those specs are from the 2002 Ford Ranger workshop manual.
The actual ride height measurement is made between the spindle tip and the a-arm pivot. However, you can't measure that easily, so you measure from the ground to each and subtract to get the difference. There is no "ride height" spec between the ground and any point on the vehicle.
Actually, there are slight differences between the 4x2 edge and 4x4 xlt/edge. The rear blocks are slightly deeper on the 4x4's for instance.
Overall, they can be considered the same.

sorry for diggin up bones ! I just was thinking that i don't like the ride with 1.5 inch t bar crank i did last week . I'm going to go back down 1/2" . after taking the measurments i see that it will leave the ride height at 4 5/8 of an inch which is the very top of the ford spec., sounds perfect.

i think this topic would make a good sticky or maybe just the photo's at the top and someone could do a little t crank how to or something to go with it. Could be better moved to the suspension forum ... this site really needs a good t crank sticky cuz the topic is always coming up but so big its getting hard to search. I'm sure bob doesn't want to explain static ride height is not a true lift again !
whats cool is alot of stock trucks are bellow the max ride height. Mine was at the very bottom , 3.6 ". If your suspension has sagged it could be even lower. You could be able to crank up to .9" inches or possibly more for a truck with sagged suspension and be within fords acceptable limits. If your within the ford specs the chance of damage from cranking seems small.
I very carefully adjusted my torsion bars from 0-1 5/8 inches . I tried driving it at at lots of hieghts for many miles on and off road over obstacles etc. i cranked it half a turn drove around for a while cranked again over and over
After trying the different ride heights I found that at about 3/16th or 1/4 ' past the max ride height the difference in ride quality really started . The main thing i noticed besides a firm and choppy ride was the inside wheel lifting under hard cornering . at 1 5/8 inches the ride got too rough for my tastes i dunno how these guys stand driving on a 2" t bar crank . wash board roads where the main problem and a chop on the highway. The wheel lifting thing was also sketchy and made the front end want to understear. i can say there is like no body roll when the bars are cranked really high.
I settled at just a hair over the max ride height which was 4 5/8" maybe it is a hair less. it was 6 1/4 turn .. It rides perfect with no noticable change except slightly harder to bottom out and a tiny bit less body roll.
