Hi a guy on CL is giving away a first gen '79 Civic Shell, I want to take it to the junk yard to scrap.

It's just the shell, no wheels, motor, tranny, nothin... I was wondering about the legal process of this.

I keep hearing the term "v5 form" what if he has no papers?

How would I go about it?

I don't know how the laws are in CA, but I just had to do this with a 71 c10 long bed that was pretty much just a cab sitting on a frame. It didn't have a title, I called every scrap yard in town and none of them would take it with out a title. They said the only way they would take it, is if I cut it up into pieces where it look like a pile of scrap metal.

 

Picked it up, truck hauled perfectly, taking it to salvage yard for probly 150 dont need title either, So im stoked on that, and stoked it has all wheels toooo and the steering worked

 

There is a lot of theft in Ohio, and a couple years ago, my dad was helping his girlfriend clean out her garage. Since I had the truck, we took my Ranger to the scrapyard to recycle some things, including a stop sign that was found. I was the driver, so I was photographed by my truck with the license plate in full view, so if any of the items were stolen or the missing stop sign caused a death who do you think would be blamed? Nothing ever came out of it but still.

 

That's a shame your scrapping it. Old shell with new motor and a turbo would be sweet no matter if its Honda, VW, or domestic.
