Fuel Filter back hose

Truck has been turning over but being real sluggish and shutting off, almost like its running out of gas. I attempted to do the cheapest thing 1st and change out the fuel filter, as im putting in the new one I see that the hose coming from the back part of the filter is ripped pretty good. Assuming its that how easy is it to change out that hose? It goes right from the fuel filter and runs about half a foot and goes into a steel pipe. What would be the easiest solution to put a new hose on there?!?! Thanks anything will help!

Last time i was at Advanced Auto, i saw a fuel hose repair kit for Fords. Came with a length of hose and the proper fitting on the end. Look in the isle with all the misc hardware and all the Help branded parts.

I would remove the length of hose that starts at the metal pipe and bring that with you, along with your old filter so you can size it up. I cant guarantee they will have the right parts, but its worth checking out.

That is the Filler Vent hose you are describing, it allows air to come out of the tank while you are filling it.

It should be repaired but wouldn't cause your sluggishness, hopefully the filter solved that.

If not rent/get a fuel pressure gauge and test the fuel pump pressure, there is a schrader valve on the fuel rail(engine) for testing pressure(looks like a tire air valve), '98 should be a "returnless" system, so 65psi of pressure would be expected, and it should hold that pressure with key off.
