Will a ranger save me money?
Will a ranger save me money?
I currently drive a 2002 f250 crew cab long bed 4x4 diesel. It gets terrible gas mileage and it costs at least $120 to fill it up. I took an average of my fuel bill over the last 6 months and its almost $700 a month I'm spending on fuel... I use my truck to pull my tractor and cattle trailers around but I don't need it to get back and forth to work everyday. It's 40 miles each way to work and where I live everything is at least 15 miles away. The guys I've talked to at work that have some rangers say it costs about $50 to fill up and they get close to 400 miles to a tank. If that's the case I should save around $350 a month on fuel.
I found a certified pre-owned 2011 single cab 2.3 auto for $1300 that still will have a lot of factory and cpo warranty left on it. After my down payment it'll cost around $240 a month to finance the ranger. So I think I'll most likely break even after I pay the insurance on the truck every month.
Does all of this sound about right to y'all?

You won't be towing much with this right?
Very low capacities on that model, even ex-cab 4.0l auto have lower than you would think towing numbers.
But for MPG above 20 would be expected, 24/25 on the highway

The only thing ill ever put in it is maybe some lumber or fencing supplies and a couple sacks of feed or a couple square bales and that's only rarely when I buy stuff in bulk that I don't need my big trailer for.
hi I am not sure how to begin a post of my own so if I am doing this in the wrong spot my apologies..... but does anyone know how to change the little rod that slides the ignition to start my 1987 ranger 4x4? thanks
Its hard to save enough money on gas to justify another vehicle, even a motorcycle sometimes doesn't do it. The key is to get something that is mostly done depreciating. You could also get a ranger that is 10 years older than the one you are looking at, and it will be almost the same truck for a lot less.
