stripped cambelt and fuel problem

hi everyone, doing some work on my ranger i've come to a dead end, so thought i'd ask for some help.

i was driving the other day and suddenly my engine died i managed to pull off the road, and on inspection the cambelt at the fuel pump was stripped of teeth, and would just spin when turned over.

i couldnt find anything seized so i timed the engine up and placed a new belt on and turned it over by hand and it seemed fine, is i started it up and it wouldnt start, so i checked the fuel and i'm getting no flow of fuel into the filter ergo, its not getting to the engine!

so any ideas why or what stripped the cambelt and why i cant get any fuel up to the filter!

its a 2.5 2007 ranger by the way.

many thanks

OK, some odd things.

2007 Ranger should have a 2.3l Duratec engine, the 2.5l Lima engine was an option until 2001/2
2.3l Duratec has a Timing Chain, not a belt.

Rangers have used electric Fuel pumps since Fuel injection was added, mid/late '80s.

When you turn the key on you should hear the fuel pump run for 2 seconds then shut off, that is the Priming cycle, it happens each time you turn on the key.
There is a 30amp fuse in the engine fuse box for the fuel pump, check that fuse if you don't hear the pump come on.

As for the other stuff.....I am at a loss unless someone has changed the engine in your Ranger.

EDIT:
Are you in Europe? i.e. London?
North American Rangers never used the 2.5l Turbo Diesel, we had the 2.2l and 2.3l diesels from '82 to '87, but after that all Ranger engines here were gasoline.
