2011 Ranger 4.0 Engine Rattle?

What are some of the more common things that might go wrong engine-wise on a 2011 Ranger w/ a 4.0L V6?

Engine light came on the other day. Haven’t gotten the code read yet. My old Ranger, the light would come on (DPFE failure) pretty frequently so haven’t paid much attention to it. However, coming back to work after lunch break there is a pretty noisy rattle coming from the engine at idle. I Just haven’t gotten a chance to look into it, so was kind wondering what sorts of problem I might have if this sounds familiar to anyone.

58,000 miles, AT, 2WD, its lived a pretty easy life so this is both surprising and unnerving. Want to get home and have a look at things but I’m stuck at work for now.

So what goes wrong with these engines? Supposedly the dreaded timing chain rattle was fixed/updated many years prior to 2011 so I hope that’s not it and its something simple like a bearing in one of the serpentine idlers.

Got a chance to crawl under the vehicle. Catalytic converter is rattling. Something loose inside it. And IIRC, emissions parts are warranted for 7 years. I'll have to read the warranty.

But would still be interested in hearing of the common problems of the 4.0 SOHC motors of close to 2011 vintage.
