1995 Ford Ranger XLT timing chain question
1995 Ford Ranger XLT timing chain question
I am selling a 1995 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0. The buyer says he wants to replace the timing chain. Says it should be replaced at 100,000 miles. Is that true? I have never replaced a timing chain. Uisng that as an excuse to low ball me on price.
Timing belts need to be replaced as part of routine maintenance (usually between 60-100k miles), timing chains DO NOT. The 3.0 has a chain not a belt. The only reason to replace a timing chain is if it its fails in some way. If its not making any noise indicative of timing chain wear or failure tell the guy he's a moron and to eff off.
Potential buyer just got the wrong info and wrong engine
Tell him your 1995 3.0l OHV is a Vulcan engine, not the 3.0l DOHC Duratec(which came out in 1996) and did have timing chain issues
Vulcan 3.0l OHV was made from 1986 to 2008 and never had timing chain issues
