Found a couple nice big cracks on my $150 craigslist ranger’s head, that explains the compression issue.

Where is the best place to get a used head for a 1992 2.3? I’m thinking about junkyards, but I’m not sure if pulling a head at a junkyard is a good idea. Price chart for the junkyard here is $60 for a complete head with cam.
The cam on my head looks fine to me, maybe I should reuse it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙂

 

I'd get a remanufactured head from a place like clearwater cylinder heads (I think that's their name). That's what I did for my '06. They cost around 450 but they are tested and ready to go.
