97 2.3 head question

I just pushesed a 97 ranger with the over head cam 2.3 engine. I bought it knowing it had a bad headgasket. Apon taring it down it would apear that the head is warpped. Can the head be milled down or are the clearances to tight?

Any info would be great

Thanks Jeremy

I'd take it to a good machine shop and have them check it out to be sure. They should be able to tell you how much material can be removed.

Hope this helps.

Milling a head is delicate work. But like Red said a machine shop can tell you how much it is out. I think we charge $100 to mill one. I dont deal with milling much besides at school.

The engine block could be warped too. A common technique used in rebuilding an engine of any kind is having block decked and the heads shaved to gain extra clearance for your valvetrain. I'd take it to a well known machine shop and have the heads shaved, ported and do a valve job. it also couldn't hurt to upgrade to a better head gasket either. Carquest brand head gaskets are the best you can get and they aint expensive either. they're stainless steel and resist heat better than most gaskets out there.
