So i just picked up a 2002 4.0 4x4. the truck is great much better than the 3.0 but im looking to do some simple modifications to try and get a little more
power out of it. everything i have read is related to engine internals and i was wondering if there was anything i can do with the intake and the exhaust systems to get more power.
No, not really
It already has a Cold Air intake and mid-band headers
The 3.0l Vulcan engine is a designed high RPM engine, so makes best power at 3,500rpms, most engines do that at 2,500rpms
So you do need to keep the RPMs high for best power and MPG
The automatics with these don't have shift points high enough, IMO, so tend to make them under powered
Good looking Ranger.
I have the same year and model but not the off-road version. Upsized the rubber one size and while it has plenty of torque, it is by no means a race vehicle. Mileage somewhere around 15-20 depending on whether city or highway. Owned it 12 years now and I still enjoy having it.
