You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
Can someone explain to me why I can’t put stock 2011 16” Y spoke cast aluminum wheels that were optional on the 4 door super cab 4x4 only - on my 2011 2.3 liter 4 cylinder single cab Ranger? My truck came with cheap, ugly, unbranded 16” wheels. Why would the OEM 16’s I want not work? Somewhere either on here or another forum a guy tried to do the exact same thing and wrote the rear wheels fit but not the front. I can’t find the thread. I was going to purchase the wheels and now I’ve decided to put that on hold for further clarification.
Thanks!!

Yes, its the 4x4 to 4x2 that the problem
You can check with local machine shops, they can bore out the center holes, on ALL 4 wheels, you want to be able to put a wheel at any of the 4 corners
The center bore is the diameter of the hole in the middle of the wheel (see diagram at top of page). You may find a rim with the proper backspacing and wheel bolt pattern, but the center bore may be too small. In this case, the wheel will not fit over the center hub of the axle. This can be fixed by some machine shops that can cut the hole out larger.
Wheels on a 1998+ 4x4 Ranger will not fit the front of a 1983-1997 4x4 Ranger. The center hole is too small for the locking hub to pass through.
Likewise, any 4x4 wheel specifically designed for the newer, flat front hubs (without a hub lock, 2001 and up) will not fit the front hubs of any 2x4 ranger. It's theoretically possible to put torsion bar 4x4 hub/spindles on a 2x4 Ranger, they use the same calipers and ball joints though this would be a lot of effort.
