Speedo problem

So I was in a hurry yesterday morning and I ended up bouncing it off the engine limiter several times. Anyway I get to where I was going on time and on the way back I'm eyeballing my speed as usual bc I have no options. It's 35 but I go 40 ish usually. I look down to see that basically my Speedo is reading 20 over normal. When I stopped it was stopped on 20 even when I cut it off. I come back an gr or so later and everything is fine again. It's an 07 2.3l XLT no options. 2wd. Just kinda weird. It only has 130,000 miles on it and it's pretty well maintained and serviced. Curious if this has happened to anybody else??

2004 - 2011 Rangers have an HEC digital dash

Google: Ford HEC test mode

And test your cluster

There is no direct connection from speedometer to drive line, so its an electronic issue
The transmission has an OSS(output shaft speed) sensor
The computer uses that to shift gears(automatic) and to get "speed" of vehicle based on rear axle ratio and tire size, which computer was programmed with at the factory

Computer then sends out that "speed" signal on the data link for HEC and Cruise if so equipped
Only analog gauges are the Fuel level and Oil pressure, but even these are not direct to gauges, they go to HEC's processor, and are then turned to digital signal that sets gauges to level you see

In other words, what you saw was a digital/data error, which was reset the next time the system booted up
