I have a 2006 Ranger XLT 4x4, 4.0L, manual trans. I'm in the process of replacing the transmission, clutch, flywheel, etc. I crushed the O2 sensor connector located just above the bell housing that goes to the first O2 sensor on the passenger side when installing the new transmission. So now I need to replace the connector, too, and I'm a bit nervous about screwing it up, since if I connect the wires to the new connector incorrectly, I'll have to pull the transmission out again to correct any wiring errors. Can anyone offer me advice on how to fix this correctly? Basically, I'm looking for an explanation of what the Ford wiring color scheme means, so I can correctly attach the new connector correctly the firs time, or a recommendation for a replacement connector that uses the same color scheme.
I've been looking at replacement connectors online, and it seems none of them use the same wiring identification scheme that Ford uses. Since my connector is completely crushed, I can't use the old one to go by. I've attached a pic of the damaged connector for reference.
Your picture didn't go through. I have a spare wiring harness from an 03 4.0 sitting in the shop, if the connector and wiring colors are the same I can cut it and send it your way.
Thanks! That would be a big help. If you could manage to give me about 6" of the wires to work with for splicing, that would be great. I'll DM you my address. I'll try posting a pic again. Let's see if this works...
Can you verify the colors on your old connector? It looks like two pink and two black from the picture, so I just want to verify. Ford was bad about changing connectors every few years, and there were quite a few changes made to the wiring in 2004. I want to make sure what I have matches your existing wiring.

Sure. See attached pics. In the pics, the white w/ blue stripe had a piece of electrical tape on it. I took it of between the two pictures. The colors are:
Red w/ white stripe
Blue w/ orange stripe
White w/ blue stripe
White w/ red stripe
The wire markings on crushed O2 sensor connector Same connector, different angle
That's considered gray? Good thing I posted the pics! Thanks again for your help.
Yep, can be hard to tell when the wires get hot and fade. Red will usually fade to pink when subjected to engine bay temps. Makes it hard to trace wires when the colors are off.
Leaving grey/red and blue/grey are the sensor wires
Neither pair has a polarity, so no "order" in that respect
But for color accuracy
the blue/orange is 12v from fuse 41
sensor is grey/red is reference ground, blue/grey is signal
Check fuse 41(15amp) in engine bay fuse box, it powers the O2 heaters and may have blown if you turned on the key with connector/wires crushed
The sensor wires should be soldered if possible as their range is just .1v to .9v, so under 1 volt, any little voltage drop will cost you money and maybe a Lean code over time, "false lean" causes computer to run engine richer than needed, so MPG goes down and that costs you $$$
