Icon5 Turbo upgrades for a STOCK rebuild?

Hi all,
I've got a 92 2.3L fuel injected 5 speed with 212,000 miles. It's my long distance daily driver that's had coolant in the oil for the past 2,000 miles and it's knocking like crazy. I figure it's time for a rebuild since I have a couple days to do a teardown and order parts. I'm interested in doing a turbo upgrade, because I love my danger ranger; but I need this rebuild to be as fast and as cheap as possible, since it's my daily driver for work. So, I was wondering if there were any turbo-friendly parts I can incorporate into this stock rebuild to avoid having to do it twice if I want a turbo later?

I don't need 300hp, I just want a truck that can climb a hill faster than 45mph with the motor screaming/pinging like crazy in 2nd gear. I haven't removed the head yet, so I don't know if my pistons are swiss cheese at this point. I would like to keep as much stock as possible, again, to keep costs down (just got my first mortgage, definitely can't afford a replacement vehicle). I want to keep my engine nice and reliable, and if a turbo isn't a way to achieve that with this truck then I'll give this dream up. From what I've read, though; 20-30 horsepower can be gained with mostly stock parts and low boost.

I've probably done some decent damage driving it long distance with coolant in the oil, even though the oil pressure and temp gauge have remained normal, the pinging has been tremendously loud. I'm already assuming I will need: headwork, cylinder work, crank work, main bearings, oil pump, pistons. Which is probably going to set me back a pretty penny as is. It's possible I've corroded my whole dang engine at this point. Your suggestions are appreciated.

Only difference is that the turbo version 2.3l Lima had forged pistons

Generally turbocharged engines require a lower compression ratio of about 8:1, so adding a turbo later wouldn't be ideal. But then again the 4.0s can handle a few psi from a supercharger on a stock CR.

Just forget about it bud. Spend that extra few grand on a 600cc supersport

A ranger and a supersport is better than a turbo ranger and no supersport.
