1997 ranger 3.0 issue
I am having trouble with water underneath my passenger side floor mat , i know its not the heater core cause the heater core is bypassed on it , i took and dried the carpet with a heat gun And the next day it was soaked again , where could the water be coming from ?

Most common interior leak issue on Rangers is the 3rd brake light on back of cab, and yes it shows up in passenger and drivers side footwells
Then there is the rusted out windshield trough, the windshield sits on a ridge that held there with a glue sealer, around this ridge is a trough, the windshield molding goes in this trough
Water gets in the trough and runs down to the two lower corners of windshield trough, where it sits, this can cause the metal there to rust thru and you get water in the cab on that side only
After drying the area inside cab you can often use garden hose on windshield then wait, see if water comes back
Then do the same on 3rd brake light but at a later time

AC drain comes out the firewall
Can be just below the Evaporator section on Heater box(more likely in 1997)
Or if you pull carpet back in passenger floor area, next to center hump, its a rubber tube that come down from heater box and runs down and out thru the floor tray(earlier location)
It certainly possible for this to make floor on passenger side wet
Doesn't look like much just a hole in firewall, looks like this: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/W0VdFRDdgvA/maxresdefault.jpg
Thats not a Ranger, just what it should look like under heater box in engine bay
You can push in a wire, not to stiff and wiggle it around to make sure its open, if you get a rush of water out it was plugged
But when this happens you can often HEAR water sloshing around in side the cab
