Looking to get a factory remote start kit for my '08 Ranger, but need guidance
I am trying to find what factory remote start kit will fit my 2008 Ranger. It's an XLT 4x4, 4.0L, with the automatic transmission. I have found two kits: Part #9L5Z-19G364-A & part #7L5Z-19G364-AA. With both kits, some sites say they'll fit, while others say they won't. I just want to be sure. I know they all say that the kids require the interface module, part #8L3Z19G365BA.
Any help would be appreciated.
Any help would be appreciated.
Ford part numbers start with the year the part was last redesigned
7 = 2007
9 =2009
L5 = Ranger
Z = electronic department
So the 9L5Z would be for 2009 and up Ranger, which "might work" in a 2008 Ranger
7L5Z would work in a 2008 Ranger unless you found a 8L5Z
Ford updates the year when they make a change thats enough to warrant a new part number
You can find 1988 parts in a 2020 vehicle if the part hasn't been changed since 1988(E8 year number)
And just FYI
The 19G364 is the actual part number for a remote start unit, but for any model in any year
The A or AA at the end is a revision number, if there were an small updates, A, AA, AB, AC ect...............these usually mean they will work for vehicle assignment just latest update is included
2008 Ranger will have PATS(passive anti-theft system), so transponder key needs to be used for startup, even remote start
So the Ford unit should come with an "electronic key" which you need to program into the PATS unit using TWO working PATS keys, no clones, so make sure you have TWO working keys before installing remote start
Electronic key is just the transponder code needed not an actual key, you add that to PATS memory just like you would adding a 3rd or 4th key
