Tire PSI with a heavy load?

I normally keep my tire PSI at the recommended 30 PSI, but I also know that the tires say max PSI 45. My question: If I'm carrying a heavy load (500 to 1500 lbs) in the bed and plan on driving a good distance, should I raise my PSI, and by how much?

Thanks for your help.
