My 1992 Ford Ranger with a 4.0 V6 doesn't have working reverse or break lights.
When I hit the brakes and put my ranger in reverse the lights do not turn on. The blinkers and running lights all work but that's it. I checked the fuses and they are all good.
+1 ^^^^
Does it have a 3rd brake light on the cab?
If its also not working then its the fuse or the brake pedal switch
If 3rd brake light works then fuse is OK but bulbs may not be, and in 1992 the rear brake lights go thru the turn signal stalk, multi-function switch, which can be the issue
Also check "trailer light" wiring they can cause issues with any tail lights
Reverse lights have no connection to Brake lights, different fuse, wires and bulbs
Manual trans or automatic?
They have different Reverse Light switches
But yes, check the bubs, if one burns out, you won't notice it, only when both burn out do you notice it, lol

not sure about 1992 but my 2002 had the same issue, kept blowing the fuse. Found a short in the wire in the shift column from rubbing raw when shifting from P R N D 1 2 ....got into the wiring and used electrical tape to recover the worn out wire, no more shorting out!! hope this helps or eliminates a possibility.
