Forward and Backwards play in steering wheel

1994 Ranger, 4x2:

Now I know what y’all are gonna say: “use the search bar” well… I did. All I found was talk about suspension issues, side to side play, and some other steering issues.

My steering column has a forwards and backwards knock when I pull the steering wheel towards myself(can also kind of be felt going over bumps). I don’t think it’s any issue with u-joints or suspension but I’m open to that idea. It doesn’t effect my steering at all while driving(as far as I can tell) so that why I don’t think it’s an issue with the suspension.

I’m thinking that the issue is either a bearing in the steering column, or something wrong with my steering box. Any advice/help would be much appreciated.
