Driving in my 99' 4.0L 5spd. 4x4 Ranger xlt, when engine started sputtering and died
After 1st time she sputtered out, I compression started her right up. Next beginning of a hill, she started a sputtering as before and quickly died to a coasting speed. Each time seemed like she was out of gas and at an earlier point going up a steeper hill, tge gauge read on the E recline till going back down the otherside she read 1/4 tank but just before that hill, gauge read just under 1/2 tank. 2 more hills and 6 miles from home and midnite.....she finally sputtered and rolled to a stop and then up till this rambling tgread; all she does is rapidly keep turning over bit not a slightest hint of kicking in and guzzling any fuel I've dumped in her this morning. Just keeps kicking over till I kick off the ignition. I undid negative to reset on board CPM, reset (pretty sure) the kill/reset fuel switch under glove box and jumped the battery(even tho she didn't need more help). Did the ignition on 3 sec n off n on 3 sec. N off and then the pedal mashed to floor while continuous cranking the engine.... thus far ZILCH.... HELP?? Possibles??: Fuel pump? Coil pack? Fuel filter??
Welcome to the forum
Watch the CEL(check engine light)
It should come on with key on, that means computer has powered up, no CEL = no computer
If CEL is on then try to start engine
CEL should go OFF as soon as engine is turning, not started just turning, that means Computer is getting a good Timing Signal from Crank sensor, no timing signal = no spark and no fuel
It reads like you could have got some "bad gas", did you just get gas the day before or same day of this problem
Gas pedal "to the floor" while cranking engine over turns OFF Fuel injectors, just FYI
I think you did 50/50 test??
Sprayed fuel directly into the engine then tried to start it?
If it didn't start then you have no spark(or no compression)
There are 3 coils in the coil pack so unlikely for all 3 to fail at the same time
No 12volt power at coil pack would mean no spark
No computer would mean no spark
No Crank sensor would mean no spark
