Icon4 2005 ford ranger 4.0 fuel filling Problem

I have a 2005 ford ranger 4.0. I have a problem with putting fuel into the tank. It constantly clicks off no matter the pump or the gas station. I have checked all the lines, blew air through everything with an air compressor and I have dropped the fuel tank and inspected the tank/fuel pump, I removed the charcoal canister air seemed to pass through that as well. I also replaced the Vapor Canister Vent Solenoid and the fuel filter while everything was apart. I have no engine lights, I have had a gas cap light come on even though I have a new gas cap but it has since gone out. The truck will still not take fuel. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? Also the plastic flapper inside the filler neck/fuel tank moves freely and it's not stuck. As far as running the truck runs good and doesn't seem to have any issues. At times there is a slight surge up and down at an idle not a lot maybe 2 to 300rpm or so if I was guessing. Not sure if thats related or not.

Welcome to the forum

Which type of filler hose does your 2005 use

Inner/outer hose: https://contentinfo.autozone.com/zne...FN548/image/2/

Or Dual hose: https://monsterautoparts.com/FORD/RA...placements.jpg

With either type the air vents from holes at the top of the filler, if gas cap is off you will see the vent hole(s) just inside

On the inner/outer setup the gas goes IN thru the smaller long tube, the air comes OUT the larger tube to the Vents by the cap

On the other style the smaller tube is hooked to its own fitting on the top of the tank and air comes OUT the Vents by the cap

EVAP system does also vent air during fill ups, thru the charcoal filter, but the main vent is at the top of filler neck
EVAP hoses are too small to vent the air fast enough

Then that smaller hose is clogged or its rubber hose is kinked where it goes into top of the tank
You said you blew thru that smaller hose?

Could be the Vent valve itself, looks similar to this: https://contentinfo.autozonepro.com/...1-001/image/3/

Have to say I have never taken one of these apart, not sure how its suppose to function

Yes we blew air through the smaller hose it's not clogged at all. And we didn't see anywhere where the rubber hose was kinked. And we also blew air through the vent valve as well and could feel air.

Well that's really all there is
Unless the gas IN hose is kinked or clogged

Gasoline IN
Air OUT

You would have had to try to SUCK air from the Vent valve in the tank, its outflow

I had exact issue after replacing fuel pump and fuel filler neck. The neck was kinked slightly reducing venting slightly. Visually it looked good, but in fact it was kinked a little and caused all sorts of issues trying to fill her up.
