1995 Ford Ranger Splash 2WD Ext cab ball joints
Hi guys,
recently I had to replace the ball joints on my truck as there was a bit of movement at the up and down 12/6 position and the camber was off so much it wore the inside of a new tire in a couple of weeks. I replaced them with some from Detroit Axle and they seemed to be good quality and was priced good. With these new upper and lower replaced I still have a bit of movement (play) in the 12/6 position but adjusted the camber bushing and it's straight now.
Is it normal to have play even with new ball joints installed? I've only done the driver side so far because that was the affected side but plan on doing the passenger side in a couple of days. I've noticed that the upper still has a gap between the rubber boot and i-beam, the bottom looks seated all the way and nut torqued to 90ft lbs. Any suggestions or advise?
Thanks

Hi HT08,
yes I am referring to the upper and lower ball joints only. Should have mentioned that all tie-rods were replaced prior to this issue with the ball joint and still check out in good shape, sorry and thanks.

To me it seems that the upper ball joint isn't long enough for the caster/camber bushing. It doesn't seem to come up far enough but I will check the passenger side as that one is still good but plan to change them as well.
