2005 duratec water pump. Got er done
Hello All,
I wanted to change out the radiator and water pump as the truck is old and has 120k. I also live in Phoenix so having a great cooling system is important. All went as well as it could. The original radiator was not as heavy as I expected but I do keep up with the fluid changes so maybe that is a good thing. It was pretty dirty and I may take my new one out every few years or so and clean it real good so that the air can flow better. I went with the Denso replacement and it fits in there nicely and snugly. I also cleaned out the AC condenser with the garden house so that should help some too. The water pump was a bit of a PITA. I knew it would be. I wish there were an easier way than just beating it with a hammer but that is what worked. Side to side slow and steady. just get it wiggling back and forth. I did spray it with wd40 during the process. It took about an hour or so to get it out so not too bad. Very pleased to get it done without too much drama. I put it all back together and replaced the degas with an aftermarket tank that leaked of course. I will have to go with a Motorcraft as I heard of doing but I was cheap. Now I get to do it twice.
Just be patient with the water pump. I wanted to do it before it really got stuck. Not sure if it made a difference.
