Oh my! Weird engine behavior, repair-related?

'07 Ranger XLT Supercab, 3.0L, 6cyl, AT, 2WD, ~135K mi., fairly new to me.

I just had the spark plugs and wires replaced.

Just now, this happened. (See video.) I am in Park, stationary, and applying slow, steady pressure to the gas.

What on Earth is happening?

@RonD

Seeing he is in park and sitting still, any chance he's up against the governor @ 3,000 rpm

Really?

I cannot say 100% that I've ever scientifically tested this, in this vehicle or any other, but I've never in 40+ years of driving seen anything like this in any car, ever.

Is this something unique to Fords? Would this be documented anywhere? Owner's manual? Website? Should I expect the same normal behavior in Neutral? (I will try it regardless.)

I think Ford started doing it in about 04 and only with automatics,

Think it's really just to keep people from doing a 6,000 neutral drop.

After a little Googling, it looks like y'all are right. Rev limiter. Should limit only in P or N, but not while actually driving. Ok, I'm glad I didn't run down to the mechanic accusing him of breaking something, lol!
