Welcome to the forum
No, there shouldn't be any fuel pump wiring behind the engine
You should hear the fuel pump run with key on, but it only runs for 2 seconds, but it runs for those 2 seconds EACH TIME key is turned from off to on
The CEL(check engine light) should also come on with key on, this means computer has powered up, it runs the fuel pump
No CEL with key on means no computer and no fuel pump
2007 has PATS(passive anti-theft system) this prevents starting the engine if the PATS module(in instrument cluster) doesn't see the correct numbered key in the ignition, but the THEFT light on the dash will Flash Rapidly if this happens
With key off the THEFT light should flash every 3 to 5 seconds, warns thieves about PATS, with key on THEFT light should come on and then go off, that means "key" has passed the number test
You don't mention this so probable OK
PATS disables fuel pump and fuel injectors, which is why I mentioned it
Could be fuel pump fuse is blown?
Or fuel pump relay issue
There is also an Inertia switch that cuts power to fuel pump if there is an accident, long shot, its in the passenger side of cab up behind the glove box mounted on the firewall, easy to reset
You can get 2007 owners manual here: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...1-models-3747/
It shows fuse and relay locations
Should also show inertia switch location
If you are going to keep this Ranger then get this book: https://www.ebay.com/itm/134252994240
Its the Ford Dealer wiring diagram manual for 2007 Rangers, all models
These are basically FREE to use, because you can resell them when you no longer need them, just like the guy you are buying it from is doing
This will tell you what the wire behind the engine is for
4.0l SOHC engines(2001-2011) need the two long timing chain tensions changed every 100k miles, not hard to do, and should have been done regardless of miles if you had the heads off
