Anyone have success with DYI programmable ign lock cylinders?
No, never heard of it but read the instructions and it could work as described, but you only get 4 tries at it
And you MUST HAVE at least one original WORKING PATS key to enter "programming mode", or it won't work
You install the new key cylinder first, it installs in the ON/RUN position, I would have the battery disconnected for this, use the all metal key to turn it OFF once its installed, pull out the key and put it back in, and turn it to START, to see if its working and feels OK, then turn it to OFF again
Then hook up battery
The programmer plugs into the OBD2 port under the steering column, do that now, it should beep once its power up, key does not need to be on
Have one of the old working PATS keys in your hand
Insert the all metal key in the cylinder, and hold the working PATS key next to it, turn ignition ON, not start just on, and watch THEFT light, if it flashes rapidly then old key didn't get read or is bad
Turn key OFF and try again with old key in a different position next to the metal key
If THEFT light comes on and then goes OFF you are good, wait for Programmer to beep
(programmers is try to get PATS into "learning mode", not sure how long it takes)
After the beep turn off the metal key and pull it out
Put in one of the new PATS keys and turn on the ignition, wait for 2 beeps, and leave key on
As said in instructions it can take 10-30min for PATS to allow new Key to be added, this is ON PURPOSE, so thieves can't add a new cylinder and key quickly to steal a vehicle
Light on programmer should flash during the waiting period
When programmer beeps twice again turn key OFF and then back ON, wait for one beep, then turn key off and pull it out
Put in 2nd new PATS key, and turn ON, wait for 3 beeps and 2nd key has been added
Turn key off and remove programmer
Put either new key in and see if engine starts, if THEFT light flashes it didn't work

Let us know how it worked, I am now curious
This is how to add PATS keys using Forscan, a software run on a laptop: https://forscan.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=839
It could be made an automated process which would be what is in the "programmer", software loop to add a key
Only caveat is that this process fails some times using Forscan and you have to start over, and you should wait 90min before trying again
The PATS system will go into "Lock Down" for 90min if it "thinks" there is a THEFT attempt in progress, but it keeps responding like its working, lol
So if it doesn't work first time out wait a few hours before trying again
