You have a 2.3l Duratec DOHC engine, it is a Mazda L engine model, which was designed to be mounted sideways in FWD cars, so it has quite a few extra coolant hoses because it is mount straight in a RWD truck
It was a good reliable engine
If you ever change the clutch while you have it then also change the heads rear coolant hose fitting since only access is with transmission off or engine out
You have an M5OD-R1(M5R1) manual transmission, it uses ATF, yes automatic transmission fluid in a manual transmission, Mercon V
Also very reliable, used in Mazda B-series from 1994 thru 2010, and in Rangers from 1988 thru 2011
These are engine specific transmissions, so if you ever needed to replace it would have to come from a 2001-2010 2.3l Mazda B2300 or 2001-2011 Ranger 2.3l, earlier 2.3l transmissions will not fit
2004 was the first year of the full digital CAN Bus system in B-series or Rangers
So hard to swap clusters or computers
It also has PATS(passive anti-theft system)
So you need a transponder key that has been programmed to the system to start the engine, its a very good anti-theft system so always have a working spare key or you will be stuck if you loose the only working key
Lock smiths can cut and add PATS keys to the system with a laptop
Or working PATS key can be CLONED/copied to have as a spare key
