2007 Ranger AC pulley? rubber smoking ?

Hello, I am curious if anyone knows what these little rubber grommets are on this pulley (in the 3 holes) I was driving and suddenly they started smoking and burning up. I assume this is the AC compressor pulley? I scraped most of the rubber out so it wouldn’t keep burning and I unplugged the AC compressor. Does anyone know if there is any danger to keep driving it ? I start a new job tomorrow and don’t have time to really do anything about it accept for get a ride if I shouldn’t be driving it. Thanks for any info

Yes, the AC Clutch is bad, hopefully compressor bearing is OK

The rubber things are vibration/motion dampers for when clutch engages and disengages

Thank you Ron ! So, I assume maybe the compressor engaged and maybe that’s why they were smoking. Hoping unplugging it would prevent that from happening again. Suppose if I have any further issues I could just remove it and put a dummy pulley in its place. Hopefully it survives a while. Thank you for your info sir!
