1984 ranger repairs – beginner questions
hi! very new to engine work but trying to learn –– just bought an 84 ranger in pretty good shape, love it so far, drives solid. it has mostly electrical problems (instrument cluster issues, speakers need replacing/rewiring, some cosmetic things), and my current main issues are a) the fuel gauge doesn't work, and b) the seller didn't have the keys for the door locks.
on the fuel gauge: I've seen elsewhere that this could be an issue with a blown fuse, but the manual I got doesn't mention a fuse particular to the instrument cluster beyond the instrument cluster lights? if it's not a fuse issue, how do I go about checking the wire from the gauge to the tank/the bob in the tank itself?
on the keys: no luck so far finding a locksmith who could make me a new set. anyone know where to get door keys, or should I just bite the bullet, buy a new set of locks w/ keys, and replace the door locks altogether?
any advice for a newcomer to engine repairs also appreciated –– thanks!
