Beginner at mechanic, I LOVE MY RANGER #3

Well with not a clue where to beging or if what I want can even be done. I'm mechanically inclined, but don't know specifics on a darn thing under the hood besides basic stuff. I'm going to learn, gain ability to get it done for myself with as little paid help and parts!
So I came here for advise, knowledge, and honesty on how I need to swap, maintain and problem solve for my Ranger/Explorers. I'm on Ranger #3 which I LOVE but dude and title issues has had me torn with options.
2000 Ranger 3.0(?) 4x4 extended cab short box
1997 Explorer Sohc
1998 Explorer shoc
Got one explorer to drive, tranny or torque converter or something almost instantly shot. Which I knew the chances. Got another one for parts swapping. Guy is wanting to buy Ranger frame n then I'm going to take doors, hood and tailgate n make a bench. So then I have 3 motors 2 vehicles. How and what.... Help me!

Welcome to the forum

So you are going to part out the Ranger?

Both the 1997/8 Explorers have a 4.0l SOHC?
4.0l OHV was also available in both years, SOHC was a optional pay extra upgrade

1997/8 4.0l SOHC both need new timing chains and tensioners, it was a problem until 2003 model year, engine needs to be OUT to replace rear timing chain

Both explorers will have the same 5R55E automatic transmission

2000 3.0l Ranger would have 4R44E automatic or M5OD-R1 manual, neither will work in Explorer, nor would the 3.0l engine, so sell them
