2002 Ranger DRL Running Light Instead of Headlight Mod?
We installed the DRL module on my son's 2002 Ranger Edge and we don't like that it uses the headlights. I know I read that we can bend a pin on the module to allow it to use the running/parking lights instead of the headlights. I searched all over and can't find which pin though. Any info?
Thanks much,
Robert

Factory DRL only uses headlights, never used Park lights, so they have no connection to Park Lights
Park lights are simply not bright enough to see in the day time
The DRL modules Pulse(PWM) the 12v power to High Beams so they run at 50-60% brightness
You could install a relay that would activate Park lights only with Key on(RUN)
And there are "Automatic" light modules but they use a Light Sensor so not for DRL

Thanks for the reply. I could have sworn I read somewhere that simply bending a pin on the module would eliminate the headlights. I believe that both his parking lights and headlights light up with the DRL as of now. I'll need to double check though... So, the lurk mode that folks talk about requires relays to mod?
If its a 3rd party DRL then it may be a "auto" light switch not specifically DRL which is head lights only
Would need to see the wiring diagram for it, or brand/model number
Factory headlight wiring with DRL module seen below, no connection to Park lights, just High Beams

Thanks for the schematic. That's so weird. Could have sworn I read long ago about the pin bending mod... maybe it wasn't for this year model. Now I'm on a quest to find out what I was reading about. Who knows. I just thought it would be an easy project. Anyway, thanks for the help.
**UPDATE**
Found it! I knew I wasn't nutz (yet)... However, it's actually for allowing the fogs to run along with the parking lights not swapping the headlights/parking lights with the DRL. Apparently bend a leg on a relay not the DRL module to allow both to run at the same time. Whew...

DRL = daytime running lights, headlights come on at 60% brightness anytime you are driving
Studies in the US and Canada in late 1970's to early 1980's showed fleet vehicles that had headlights on in daylight driving had 7% fewer accidents
1989 was first year Canada required DRL on all vehicles
When DRL was required on all Canadian vehicles it went to almost 9% fewer accidents.........in Canada
US has never required DRL Federally, but some States have always required headlights to be on in the daytime if wipers are in use, or other daytime poor visibility conditions
DRL was added to most vehicles sold in the US in 1995, but it can be enabled or disabled, sometimes by Dealer Only, other times owner can do it

Why not disable the brake lights, remove the seat belts, disconnect the horn, yank out the air bags, replace the safety glass with ordinary plate glass, remove the turn signals, rip out the parts than make up the "crumple zone", bypass the fuel shut-off switch, disable the ABS, pull out the reverse lamps... you know.. all that stuff Mother Hen requires?
