Manual Shifting issues

The problem I’m having I can’t seem to find any information on so I joined this forum.

i have a 1989 Ranger 2.3L manual transmission.

The truck was previously a automatic but was converted before I owned it.

I just replaced the throw out bearings, clutch, slave cylinder, bled the system, pretty much your standard clutch job.

my issue is that it shifts roughly. I don’t have a problem getting the car in any of the gears, my issue is that the trans throws and jerks you when you let off the clutch. The rpm’s seem a bit high when I press the clutch.

Because the jerking is so bad, I have found the only way to shift smoothly is to keep slight pressure on the clutch through all 5 gears. I can only fully release the clutch when I am in 5th gear or when the rpm’ stabilize.

I can’t figure it out, and none of my mechanic friends seem to know what’s causing this problem.

if you need any more information or description, I’m happy to provide more details.

Welcome to the forum

Reads like a clutch issue not a transmission issue
Did you use a standard clutch setup, nothing that said heavy duty, performance or "racing", these use softer clutch material that is SUPPOSE to get sticky when heated up for better grip but makes for jumpy regular driving

Cheaper clutch discs may not be ground flat so can slip when fully released until clutch disc is smoothed out, holding the pedal down a bit allows equal slippage, lol

Did you replace or have the flywheel surfaced?

Did the new pressure plate get bolted on equally, if one bolt/attachment is not flush on flywheel then you will have slipping, and it could be bad machining when pressure plate was made
